For many years Del has had a keen interest in Versatile tractors. Del and his father bought their first Versatile tractor (a model 800) in 1974 when Del was 17 years old. Over the years the Gates family has owned several Versatile tractors. Presently both Del and his father each farm with Versatile 1156’s. A few years ago Del started looking for a D100 and by chance on a trip to Kenmare, ND noticed a D118 being serviced at the Farmer’s Union Oil shop. The tractor was in notably excellent condition with only 2890 hours. Del found out that the tractor had been brought in by Harold Jorgenson for a radiator repair and new exhaust system. The tractor did not have a cab and Del was so taken by it’s appearance that he called Harold and found out that it belonged to Harold’s father in law Theodore Ahre of Powers Lake, ND, and that the tractor might be for sale. Harold got back to Del about a month later and Del purchased the tractor. Mr. Ahre purchased this tractor brand new for $10,000.00 at Mertes Implement in Bowbells, ND. Del restored the tractor in 2001 and reports that the tractor had been so well taken care of and in such nice condition that really all it required was a new seat cushion and back as well as two or three knobs and buttons on the controls. Del was able to source the code for the original color and cross-referenced it to RM Uno paint. An original set of decals was also located through a tractor supply dealer. Del drove the tractor in the Mohall Centennial Parade on July 4, 2001 and reports the tractor garnered lots of attention and looks forward to going to other shows this summer. Congratulations Del on your fine restoration and we wish you many enjoyable hours with your Versatile D118. PS: Del is still looking for a D100 or G100. |
